The album features Michel Camilo’s Suntan in Trifonov’s own transcription for piano, as well as two works by Cuban composer Ernesto Lecuona: Y la negra bailaba! and La Comparsa. These are joined by Suave acalanto from Oscar Lorenzo Fernández’s Suite brasileira No. 1 and Osvaldo Golijov’s colourful Levante, arranged for piano by Brunetti.
Spanning a broad arc across the South American continent, Trifonov creates a richly layered musical panorama. At the same time, the album gains a personal dimension through Trifonov’s close connection to the region, lending this musical journey of discovery a special significance.
