“Blue Train” is an absolute rarity in the Blue Note catalog, as it is the only album that John Coltrane recorded as a leader for the label. And it was also only the tenor saxophonist's second solo album. He can be heard playing classic hard bop in the company of trumpeter Lee Morgan, trombonist Curtis Fuller, pianist Kenny Drew, bassist Paul Chambers and drummer Philly Joe Jones. The session was recorded in 1957 by Rudy Van Gelder in his legendary studio in Hackensack, New Jersey. The album is not only considered one of Coltrane's masterpieces, but also a milestone of jazz in general.
