Includes a four-page foldout insert featuring images of the tape boxes and a new essay by jazz expert and series producer Tony Higgins. "Child Song", Henry Lowther's 1970 debut album for Deram, has become a sought-after rarity of British jazz. The trumpeter, flugelhornist and violinist played with John Mayall, Manfred Mann and the Keef Hartley Band, with whom he appeared at the legendary Woodstock Festival in 1969. On "Child Song", Lowther combines post-bop and free improvisation with the emerging electric sounds of jazz-rock. Electric piano, electric bass and violin give the album a remarkably modern sound, revealing the influence of Miles Davis' "In A Silent Way" and "Bitches Brew". A fascinating document from the creative heyday of British jazz – back on vinyl for the first time since 1970.
