With "The Stylings Of Silver" (1957), Horace Silver continued to establish himself as one of the defining voices of hard bop. Joined by Art Farmer on trumpet, Hank Mobley on tenor saxophone, Teddy Kotick on bass and Louis Hayes on drums, Silver shines as pianist, composer and bandleader. Recorded at Rudy Van Gelder's studio in Hackensack, the album combines driving swing and blues-infused grooves with Silver's distinctive melodic directness. Five of the six compositions are his own, including "No Smokin'", "The Back Beat", "Soulville" and "Home Cookin'", while the ballad "My One And Only Love" adds a classic standard to the set. "The Stylings Of Silver" is a focused showcase of the soulful yet precise sound with which Silver helped shape both hard bop and the unmistakable character of Blue Note.
This Blue Note Classic Vinyl Edition is Mono, all-analog, mastered by Kevin Gray from the original master tapes, and pressed on 180g vinyl and packaged in a single sleeve at Optimal.
