With "Leapin' And Lopin'" (1962), Sonny Clark delivered one of the final and finest statements of his brief career. Recorded in 1961 at Rudy Van Gelder's studio in Englewood Cliffs, the album features the pianist alongside Tommy Turrentine on trumpet, Charlie Rouse on tenor saxophone, Butch Warren on bass and Billy Higgins on drums. Clark originals such as "Somethin' Special", "Melody For C", "Eric Walks" and "Voodoo" combine memorable melodies, blues-infused hard bop and effortless swing. The ballad "Deep In A Dream" adds a distinctive change of color, with Ike Quebec replacing Rouse on tenor saxophone. "Leapin' And Lopin'" captures Clark's elegant, rhythmically incisive style and underlines his lasting contribution to the classic Blue Note sound.
This Blue Note Classic Vinyl Edition is stereo, all-analog, mastered by Kevin Gray from the original master tapes, and pressed on 180g vinyl and packaged in a single sleeve at Optimal.
