This exceptional 51-CD box set brings together Sviatoslav Richter’s complete Decca, Philips and DG recordings from 1956 to 1992, celebrating one of the most enigmatic and compelling pianists in the history of recorded music.
Highlights include the Sofia Recital; Beethoven’s Cello Sonatas Nos. 4 and 5 with Mstislav Rostropovich; Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 and a coruscating performance of Rachmaninov’s Second Piano Concerto under Herbert von Karajan. The collection also features Prokofiev and Britten concertos conducted by Britten, two wondrous Liszt concertos with Kirill Kondrashin, and Schubert and Wolf Lieder with Peter Schreier and Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau.
The 132-page booklet, in English, French and German, includes rare photographs and an essay by Jed Distler. 2027 marks 30 years since Richter’s death—a fitting occasion to rediscover this extraordinary artist.
