2010 marks the 30th anniversary of the release of one of the most important albums in German pop history: “Monarchie und Alltag” by Fehlfarben. Since then, the group led by singer and lyricist Peter Hein has experienced the ups and downs of the music business at length. But after a period of non-existence and various attempts at revival, they are back on top with “Glücksmaschinen.” “Glücksmaschinen,” feelings of happiness? But of course! Because the eight songs are so good and contemporary that the past is just annoying. The music is incredibly powerful, rocking and electronic, full of hooks and loops. Berlin producer Moses Schneider (Tocotronic, Beatsteaks) is certainly not entirely innocent in this, as he simply let the band play. The lyrics are, as usual, both straightforward and convoluted, direct and roundabout. Incidentally, there are quite a few T-shirt slogans: “Madness, madness, everything is fine” or “We are afraid, but unfortunately we don't have time for it.” One wishes many young bands had this much power and clarity.
